18 Cultural Activities to be Taken Place in Beijing during Dragon Boat Festival
Duanwu Festival is a cultural festival which celebrates by Chinese throughout the world. Basically, dragon boat races will be carried out during this festival and therefore, it is often referred to as Dragon Boat Festival especially by the foreigners. The Dragon Boat Festival 2010 falls on June 16 but the celebration of the festival might last for about two weeks. During this festival, 18 cultural activities will be taken place in Beijing for the public to take part with.
The Deputy Minister of Beijing Public Relation Committee, Mr. Fu Hua has announced a series of activities to be carried out during this period during the press conference on June 9. It was said that the 18 activities are all related to the core of Duanwu festival with Dragon Boat as the central axis. The series of activities will begin from June 5 until June 20.
The opening ceremony of the Duanwu Cultural Festival will be boomed out at Olympic Water Park Shunyi District of Beijing. During the opening ceremony, dragon boat races by 23 teams will push the celebration to it first peak. Moreover, smaller scale of dragon boat races will be carried out at Chongwen District, Xicheng District, Fangshan District and etc as well. If you are unable to present at the opening ceremony but interested a lot to witness the races on site, you may take the opportunity to visit the nearest district anyway. Besides dragon boat races, seminars regarding Duanwu culture, teaching classes for Zongzi (unique rice ball during Duanwu festival) and Duanwu temple fair are all ever ready to welcome each and every visitor.
