3700 meters Damaged Badaling Great Wall Restored

After going through four years of restoration and reinforcement project that taken place along Badaling Great wall, a total of 3700 meters damaged ancient great wall within Badaling District which was previously closed for public visit has been fully restored. This project which was successful accomplished has been submitted for acceptance check by Cultural Heritage Bureau recently.

The northern and southern section of Badaling Great Wall which was not opened for public visit has been seriously damaged due to both natural and human factors. Especially the side extension walls as well as the surrounding wall of beacon tower appear in very bad condition. Moreover, some of the great wall sections were collapsed too due to the erosion or theft of great wall bricks by nearby locals. Therefore, an all rounded restoration project was taken place since June of 2006 to rescue and reinforce this unique heritage of China. The whole restoration project was divided into two phases in which the first phase is more emphasized on the 1254 meters great wall on the southern part of Badaling while the second phase is specialized for the 2455 meters great wall on the northern part of Badaling Great Wall.

According to the spokesperson of Badaling Great Wall, the closure section of Badaling Great Wall is situated in the undeveloped natural forest area in which some of the sections are having as high as 70 degrees of slope. Therefore, none of the high-end technology equipment can be used to assist the restoration project here. Throughout the restoration project, most of the city wall bricks as well as the construction materials were carried up the hill one by one through human force. As a whole, nine enemy towers, seven enemy platforms, 17 gates and 3700 meters of great walls had been restored throughout the project.

It is proud to say that, all the new bricks that used within the project were produced strictly according to the standard of original items. Besides that, the platform of great wall and stone structure throughout the great wall are remained at their original settings as well. On top of that, special procedure has been taken to conserve the remaining original section of great walls in order to strengthen their structure as well as to protect them from natural erosion.
