Not entirely accurate. I am a Canadian who has lived in China for many years. My current visa expired while I was visiting Spain. I went to the Chinese embassy in Barcelona to get simply a transit visa. I had a connecting flight in Beijing to Sydney, Australia. 1.) No embassies offer same day service any longer. This is only available in Hong Kong or Macau. 2.) Many foreign embassies (Spain's included) will only issue visas to nationals of that country or permanent residents. In other words, I was denied a transit visa.

Having said that, I was fortunate to have to change terminals in Beijing (T2 to T3) and you can get a "transit without visa" on arrival for stays of less than 24 hours in order to change terminals. There is no air side transfer service so you are able to leave the airport.

Hope that helps.

Novotel Peace Hotel Beijing is situated at Wangfujing, within walking distance from Forbidden City. Although the hotel is easy reach via Beijing Subway, as you are travelling in group and might have luggages to carry along, i suggest your group to rent a car so that you can reach the hotel easily.

There is no direct shuttle bus from Beijing Capital Airport to Peninsula Hotel Beijing. The nearest path that you may take is Beijing Shuttle Bus Line 3 which heading to Beijing Railway Station. Anyway, you may drop off at Yabao Road and take a taxi to the hotel. Perhaps, you may reach the hotel within starting rate from Yabao Road. Enjoy your trip in Beijing.

I saw the show last night, Thursday 9th and there was a really bad accident with one of the artists, I tried to find an update on how she is...does anyone know? It was frightening to watch and for my peace of mind I would like to know if she's okay.

Absolutely not. Chances are you won't be allowed on the plane w/o a visa, and if you make it as far as Bejing you'll be deported on arrival. You can get a visa at a Chinese consulate or embassy in a day (around 4 hours) if you don't have time to wait the two weeks for an agent. Sure, there's a slim chance that you could get one in China in an emergency situation (as mentioned earlier, a funeral or illness), but if you don't have proof (think notarized, iron clad documentation) to say why you didn't get your visa earlier other than forgetting or being lazy, then you'll be deported. Some things they are lax on, visas aren't one of them, unless you know someone. They like to track their foreigners.

you must obtain a Chinese visa prior to arriving in China. Visit your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate. Most offer overnight visa processing services for an additional fee.

If you arrive in Beijing without a Chinese visa, then you will be taken into custody, fined heavily, and deported at your own expense.
